Two ways to enhance your sleep to feel your best self

Sleep is the paramount of importance when it comes to our overall wellbeing.

In todays world, the importance has shifted from the concept of beauty sleep (the idea that we should achieve a restful nights sleep to benefit our looks only) to the idea that we need to ensure we get a good nights sleep to protect our health and how we feel.

It is recommended to get eight hours of sleep each night to feel energised but to also remain in good health by allowing our bodies to rest. However, with the increasingly fast paced world with the demands of work and family life, stress and the presence of technology it can be hard to get enough quality sleep that results in feeling the best version of ourselves. To help combat this weve put together two sleep solutions that can help to transform your sleep routine so that you can achieve a restful nights sleep.

Harness the power of Aromatherapy:

Aromatherapy is an incredibly powerful tool that can trigger feelings of relaxation when used effectively with the right ingredients. Studies show that aromatherapy works by stimulating scent receptors in the nose which then send a message to the bodies limbic system which is the part of the brain that controls emotions. As a result, a certain emotion can be triggered by a specific scent and these emotions can be tied to memories and certain ingredients.

Aromatherapy can help you to drift off because an aroma can prompt the nervous system to transmit signals to the limbic system in the brain; this aromatherapy principle can be used to condition the brain to feel sleepy after being exposed to a certain scent over and over again.

One product which is incredibly effective in inducing sleep is a pillow spray. The Spritz Wellness Sleep Atmosphere Mist is crafted with the soothing scents of Lavender, Ravensara, Chamomile and Mandarin to form a crafted combination of natural ingredients that studies show have the ability to induce sleep.

Lavender for example has been proven to induce sleep it interacts with a neurotransmitter in the brain to quiet the nervous system activity, reducing agitation and restlessness.

By using a pillow spray every night before you sleep you are utilising the power of essential oils to create an environment that encourages sleep. The repetition of using the sleep mist also encourages your memory receptors in your brain to engage with the scent and mimic the feeling of drowsiness when the aroma is released each night by training your senses.

The Spritz Wellness Atmosphere Sleep Mist is 100% natural, is crafted with pure essential oils and does not contain alcohol or parabens. Simple and effective, all you have to do is spritz around the room and on the pillow before sleep.

Practice meditation before bedtime

Another way to enhance your sleep to wake up feeling happier and healthier is to practice meditation before bed. Meditation is a practice that using mental and physical techniques to clear the mind. One effective meditation technique to encourage sleep is breathing exercises. In order to do this you need to focus on your breaths. By focusing on the action of inhaling and exhaling the mind is distracted from stressful thoughts and is brought into the present. There are many podcasts available that offer guided meditation to get started but simple breathing techniques are a great way to start.

The wellness book And Breatheby Sarah Rudell Beach includes daily meditations and mantra soft a greater calm, balance and joy. A positive addition to your sleep routine would be to spritz your bed with the Sleep Atmosphere Mist and practice meditation for five minutes before going to bed.

Additionally an Aromatherapy Eye Pillow is a great accessory to use for meditation. By placing the pillow over your eyes the weight will help to relax the body whilst the scents of organic lavender and chamomile will contribute to a calming environment for sleep. By blocking out light with an eye pillow it encourages your circadian rhythm to prepare for sleep also.

The practice of meditation accompanied by an Aromatherapy Eye Pillow is a great way to instil a moment of calm into your day to allow your mind to slow down and your body to prepare to rest. As a result you will wake up feeling refreshed with a clearer mind for the day ahead.
