We’re moving into a new year full of uncertainty, and it’s so important to find ways to stay grounded and centred, focused in the here and now. Whether it’s just a simple tea break or taking deep breaths to ground us, small things help a lot.
It’s safe to say that the last several months have been a challenge. We’ve all suffered, and if you’re like me, someone who needs to plan and prepare for life, it’s been tough. Trying to juggle homeschooling, working from home and staying positive has proven to be a massive challenge. I’ve found that drawing on my yoga practice has been a good way of staying grounded.
I’ve taught yoga and practised for the last 20 years, and it’s given me the tools I need to centre myself when life becomes chaotic. One pose I find useful for easing the mind is the “child’s pose”. You put your knees wide, sit back to the heels and rest your forehead on the mat. It’s great for releasing tension and stress.
My morning routine is also a good grounding force in my life. I find that it is easiest to maintain a consistent series of actions every day to stay focused. I begin with a glass of water, and then either a gentle walk, yoga, or strength training to focus my mind, energise my body, and start my day off right.
Homeschooling and spending more time with my family as I work from home all day has been a challenge. I find that slipping away for five minutes to use my Spritz Wellness Aromatherapy Eye Pillow is a great way to relax. The smell of lavender and chamomile is perfect for unwinding. Using the mobile app Calm or listening to Gaba Meditations on the Podcast app helps too!
It’s all about simple things like being able to take a deep breath and clear my mind. Focusing on my breathing and staying still for a moment allows me to find a sense of perspective and refocus my energy.
A life out in nature has proven to be a powerful remedy all its own. I find time outside clears my mind and gives me the strength to renew my sense of energy. I make time to go outside every day, even if it’s only for half an hour or so - I always feel better for it.
It’s probably important that I talk about how I use aromatherapy to stay positive and calm. Truthfully, I’ve always enjoyed aromatherapy to relax. I’ve been using my Spritz Wellness Relax Atmosphere Mist quite a bit to help me with relaxation. With calming scents such as mandarin, chamomile, bergamot and lavender, I find them useful to unwind and slow down a bit.
What I recently found, and love, is that when it comes to the trials and distractions of the outside world, jigsaw puzzles are an excellent way to unwind, along with herbal tea.
My recommendation is to find what works for you. Take a look at what helps you to unwind and embrace it as a tool for dealing with stress and staying grounded.
