Setting Intentions in Yoga

Posted by Laura Colucci on

Have you been in a yoga class where the teacher asks you to set an intention for your practice?

If you have never done this before, this can feel a bit overwhelming and daunting. What if I'm not setting the right intention? What is an intention? The mind starts to take you off on a tangent when really its meant to be a method of bringing your heart and mind into alignment. Intentions are something deeply personal to you and intangible.

If setting intentions in yoga and meditation is new to you here are some examples:

I intend to be kind

I intend to stop taking things personally

I intend to be not be critical of myself

I intend to incorporate mindfulness into my day

I intend to respond vs. react in difficult situations

Yoga, meditaiton, om, be here and love,

Be Here and Love founder Claudia Southgate provides these helpful tips for setting intentions:

"Setting intentions requires presence.

Setting intentions requires a very special quality of focus.

Setting intentions also requires commitment.

Once you have focussed on what you want to achieve and why you want to achieve it, you then have to commit to the journey."

What are your intentions for your yoga and meditation practice in 2022?
