"Your Body Hears Everything Your Mind Says"

— Naomi Judd

Ever feel tension in the shoulders and jaw in stressful situations? Or a nagging stress headache?

This is the body reacting physically to what the mind is saying. Practising letting go of tension in the body through a full body scan, and reminding yourself to physically soften your muscles, can help combat tension created by the mind.

How to Do a Body Scan

  1. Get comfortable, either seated in a chair or lying down. Close your eyes.
  2. Start at the toes, feet and legs, and slowly work your way up the body to the crown of the head.
  3. To help keep your mind present as you move through the scan, focus on your breath alongside each body part you're relaxing.
  4. Once you've completed the entire body, make a note of where you felt you were carrying the most tension. Did one side of the body feel more tense than the other? Simply observe, without judgement.

A quiet room, dim light and a calming scent can help you settle into the practice more easily. Try misting the space with a Relax Atmosphere Mist before you begin, or rest with an aromatherapy eye pillow over the eyes if you're lying down, to block out light and deepen the sense of stillness.

Build a few quiet minutes of stillness into your day with our range of calming rituals.
