Wellness Stacking: 5 Tiny Rituals to Build Into Your Day

The best wellness habits are the ones you barely have to think about. Wellness stacking makes them stick by attaching them to what you already do.

By Laura Colucci, Founder of Spritz Wellness

Most of us do not fail at wellbeing because we lack willpower. We fail because we try to add one more thing to a full day, and it quietly falls away. Wellness stacking is the gentle fix. Instead of finding new time, you attach a tiny ritual to something you already do without thinking. The old habit becomes the reminder, and the new one comes along for the ride.

How Wellness Stacking Works

The formula is simple: after I do the thing I always do, I will do one small wellbeing thing. The kettle, the lamp, the laptop, the shower, these are your anchors, the reliable moments that already happen. You are not building willpower, you are borrowing a habit you already have.

Your Anchor
  • Boiling the kettle
  • Turning off the bedside lamp
  • Opening your laptop
  • Stepping into the evening shower
Stack On It
  • Three slow breaths, or brew a herbal tea
  • Mist your pillow with lavender
  • Light a focus candle
  • Use a scented scrub to reset

Five Tiny Rituals to Try

1. While the kettle boils, breathe

Take three slow breaths, or make it the cue to brew a caffeine-free tea. A ninety-second pause that costs you nothing.

2. As you turn off the lamp, mist your pillow

Keep a lavender mist on the bedside table so it becomes part of switching off the light.

3. Before your first email, light a candle

Let a focus candle mark the start of the working day, a small line between before and now.

4. In the evening shower, use a scented scrub

Turn an everyday wash into a sensory reset with an energising or calming scrub.

5. Before bed, rest an eye pillow

Two minutes with an eye pillow and a few slow breaths, and the day is officially done.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is wellness stacking?

Wellness stacking, a form of habit stacking, means attaching a small new wellbeing habit to something you already do, like taking three breaths while the kettle boils. The existing habit acts as a reliable cue for the new one.

How do I make a wellness habit stick?

Keep it tiny and attach it to an existing routine. Rather than a big new plan, pair one small act with a daily anchor you never miss, and let the repetition do the work.

What are some easy wellness rituals?

Misting your pillow as you turn off the lamp, taking three slow breaths before your first email, or resting an eye pillow over your eyes for two minutes before bed are all simple, effective rituals.
