I get asked this all the time. What actually is an atmosphere mist? Is it just a room spray? Or is it the same thing as a home fragrance?

With the home fragrance market growing so quickly, it’s no surprise there’s a bit of confusion. We now have candles, diffusers, pillow sprays, room sprays and mists everywhere you look. Honestly, atmosphere mist could easily just be called a home fragrance, but for me, it’s about more than just scent.

An atmosphere mist is designed to change how a space feels, not just how it smells. Yes, it’s a room spray, but it’s also a simple way to use aromatherapy in everyday life. Instead of masking odours, it uses natural essential oils to influence mood, energy and emotion.
I use atmosphere mists throughout the day in different ways. In the morning, I’ll spray one around the room to feel more awake and focused. During the day, a quick spritz in my workspace helps reset my mind, especially when I’m feeling overwhelmed or distracted. In the evening, it becomes part of my wind-down routine. A few sprays in the bedroom or on the pillow instantly softens the space and helps signal that it’s time to slow down.

Because atmosphere mists are made with essential oils, they’re an easy entry point into aromatherapy. You don’t need a diffuser, candles or a complicated ritual. You simply spray, breathe, and let your senses do the rest. It’s one of the most accessible ways to bring calm, energy or balance into your home.
So yes, you could call an atmosphere mist a room spray or a home fragrance. But I think of it as something more intentional. A small ritual you can use anytime you want to shift the mood of a space or how you’re feeling within it.
